• The Patient Information Advisory Group has approved our Clause 60 application and also our plan for collecting neonatal data (March 2003 meeting - see http://www.doh.gov.uk/ipu/confiden.)
  We are in the process of developing appropriate parental information material, which will undergo regional consultation.

• The neonatal phase 2 (extended) dataset consultation has now been completed. The new fields - RDS, PDA and Infections - will be added to the dataset within the next two months.

• We have developed a neonatal barcode label for the NHS baby number, which meets the requirements for the regional screening laboratory. Testing will commence in the pilot sites next week. The label can be used on all appropriate paper outputs, transfer summaries as well as Child Health Record Books. We are also in the process of developing barcode labels for mothers’ NHS number, for use on maternity notes and in antenatal screening.
