The November forum focused
on the CESDI 8th annual report and clinical
governance.
Mr Laurence Wood summarised the importance of clinical
governance with respect to the current antenatal care
system.
Clinical governance was first described in DoH's
1998 publication A First Class Service as:
“ a framework through which NHS organisations are
accountable for continuously improving the quality
of their services and safeguarding high standards
of care by creating an environment in which excellence
in clinical care will flourish”

The results of the 8th annual CESDI report
and their implications for clinical governance were
explained by Dr Jo Modder.

In addition Dr Ellen Knox discussed the research
stages of a potential new classification system designed
at the West Midlands Perinatal Institute to help reclassify
those stillbirths currently termed “unexplained”(see
Intrauterine Growth Restriction).
