The key aspect of the Perinatal
Institute's policy relating to the collection and analysis
of potentially identifiable data is to provide
information for the mother/parent/carer about data being
collected and held, and to make available the opportunity
to opt out. In each instance, our policies
have been developed with the help of the relevant professional
advisory groups including user representation.
The Perinatal Institute has a Confidentiality Policy
which relates to all data held by the Institute.

Our policy has been reviewed and approved by the Information
Commissioner's Office and by NHS Connecting for Health:
WMPI's data collection remit has been re-affirmed and
endorsed by its Governing Board (Sept 2008). Linked
with this is our programme of regular and ad-hoc reports,
and the data sharing policy in line with that of the
NHS Information Centre for Health and Social Care.
As defined by National Research Ethics Committees '
Defining Research' (on website of the National Patient
Safety Agency), such work is categorised as audit and
service evaluation and therefore does not require ethical
approval.
