The aim of a confidential enquiry includes:

  • Identification of avoidable factors including events, actions or omissions attributable to care, management protocols, systems or external social factors .
  • Development of recommendations to improve overall maternity service provision in both primary and secondary care.

The Perinatal Institute undertakes regional and local Confidential Enquiries, commissioned by SHA, PCTs and Maternity units.

The results are fed back and PI works with stakeholders locally to develop local recommendations and action points.
