Perinatal Forum: Obesity in
Pregnancy
Maternal obesity is associated with complications
throughout pregnancy and increased
health risks for both mother and baby. The 2004
CEMACH maternal death enquiry reported
that 35% of all maternal deaths were in obese
women. Obesity is also associated with
increased perinatal mortality. The purpose of
this Forum is to highlight an urgent public
health problem and to discuss strategies for
clinical management and prevention.
