Neonatal News

The MANNERS Neonatal system has now been fully operational for six months and is installed in 12 of the Units within the Region. A download of the regionally agreed dataset is underway in the remaining Units and this complies with one of the recommendations in the DH Neonatal Intensive Care Services Review (2003): “NIC networks should develop IT infrastructures to support audit activity and outcomes”

Further development of the data set will enable the West Midlands to highlight areas of best practice for research and development and formulate regional guidelines for neonatal care.

Maternal News

The MANNERS Maternity system has now finished the first stage of development and will be available to maternity units from May 2003.

One of the new modules contains the Smoking and Pregnancy dataset – as outlined in DSC Notice: 50/2002. This module will enable the collection and audit of the information and can be used independently or as part of the maternal system.
