ReCoDe is a classification system for stillbirths which was developed by
the Perinatal Institute and used within its perinatal mortality reports in the West
Midlands. The system is intended to describe the relevant clinical conditions associated
with stillbirths, to address the problem that many are reported as 'unexplained'
with conventional classification systems. The clinical implications of 'unexplained
stillbirths' have been discussed in a commentary commissioned by the 8th CESDI Report,
available here.
