A Regional Midwifery Forum
has been set up within the West Midlands.
The main remit of the group is to make regional midwifery
responses and recommendations following robust critical
review, analysis and discussion of current guidance,
documents, innovations and evidence that shape maternity
care.
Following discussions with regional Heads of Midwifery
and the Local Supervisory Midwifery Officer invitations
for representatives from each Trust were sent to all
Heads of Midwifery by the coordinators: Pat McGeown,
Head of Midwifery, Perinatal Institute : see
the invite letter.
Pat McGeown qualified as a midwife in 1987 and practiced
midwifery in a variety of roles in Coventry for 13 years. Prior to her current
appointment with the Institute she was a Lecturer-Practitioner with Coventry
University. She has been a Supervisor of Midwives since 1997 and maintains
links with both the university and maternity unit in Coventry to continue her
supervisory and midwifery practice.
There are seventeen Trusts with maternity units in
the West Midlands. We have named representatives from
sixteen. The unit that is unable to send a representative
has made arrangements to be informed of all developments
and decisions. Additionally, each of the universities
that serve the region have a named representative.
The Regional Heads of Midwifery will also be kept updated.
