Each unit is accredited for training by the Combined Royal
Colleges Training Committee. The training centres
offer a specified number of training sessions.
The
training places are all allocated to year 4/5 Specialist
Trainees working within the West Midlands Deanery. The
places are allocated by the Regional Ultrasound Group,
by making representations to the Higher Training
Committee regarding the rotation of doctors to the
various units within the region. Much of the
training is actually undertaken by experienced radiographers
within each unit.
The
training program involves 300 hours of scanning within
approved training sessions after acceptance onto
the training program. A logbook of 10 long
and 40 short cases with images is submitted to the
RCOG/RCR committee and the trainee must attend the
annual theoretical course held at the RCOG.
