- The
Perinatal Institute has now settled into its new premises in Crystal
Court, Aston Cross (opposite the Aqueous Buildings of the NHSIA).

- The link
between MANNERS and City Hospital's patient administration system
(PiMS) has now been established and is working well. This
will enable the staff to avoid double data entry and ensure that their
patient information system is updated when the baby
NHS
number has been obtained.
- The
MANNERS Antenatal Screening tool is being rolled out across the West
Midlands, to be operational
by April 2004 - the National Screening Committee’s formal
starting date for data collection. The software is already in
use in the majority
of WM maternity units – for a list of units click
here.

- The
West Midlands CESDI - Electronic Rapid Reporting module was presented
to the annual meeting of the Region’s local co-ordinators on
15th January. From feedback received, the concept of electronic notification
via the NHSnet is proving very popular. The demonstration system
is due to be launched next month.

- The
first six month period of neonatal data collection has been completed.

- Our dataset has benefited substantially from feedback by
NHS personnel, including clinicians, programmers and clerical front
line staff. The Neonatal Data Group has now produced a Neonatal
Core Data Index, with 63 data items listed chronologically and with explanations
and references about the origin of each item. The dataset has been
submitted to the BAPM Working Party who are considering a standard
core dataset.
