The network consists of up to 20 members from NHS Stop smoking services from Primary Care Trusts across the three WM Strategic Health Authorities.

Currently the network is for those working in any of the 3 WM SHA areas - Birmingham and The Black Country SHA, WM South SHA and Shropshire and Staffordshire SHA.

As new staff are appointed, it is anticipated that numbers will increase - e.g.

  • NHS Stop Smoking advisors/specialists/leads for smokers who are pregnant
  • Representation from West Midlands Perinatal Institute
  • West Midlands Tobacco Control Manager
  • West Midlands Strategic Health Authority Leads for smoking cessation
  • West Midlands Public Health Leads – smoking cessation

Currently the network is open to those working in any of the three West Midlands Strategic Health Authority areas.

Coordinator: Carmel O’Gorman – Midwifery Lead for smoking cessation in pregnancy. Based at Good Hope Hospital NHS Trust, this post is a joint initiative with North Birmingham PCT.

Key Support: The network is fortunate to have joint support Jason Gardosi, Director of the Perinatal Institute and Paul Hooper West Midlands Tobacco Control Manager. Their continued support is essential for sustaining the network.
